Behavioral perspectives of the neuroscience of drug addiction

Article Abstract:

The emerging neuroscience of reinforcement and choice behavior eventually might shed light on the brain mechanisms involved in excessive drug use. The advantage of a behavioral approach to drug abuse is that, contrary to the drug-based neuroscience theories, it not only accounts for excessive behavior that does not involve drugs, but also accounts for the situations in which repeated exposure to drugs is not followed by addiction.

Dynamic response-by-response models of matching behavior in rhesus monkeys

Article Abstract:

Response-by-response behavior of monkeys is modeled with linear models that used past reinforcement as well as past choices to predict the monkey's choices on different trials. The results suggest that simple reinforcement learning models must account for the effects of past choices to accurately characterize behavior during block transition and the response-by-response pattern of behavior.

Acquisition of cocaine self-administration with unsignaled delay reinforcement in rhesus monkeys

Article Abstract:

A study on the rheus monkeys, naive with respect to lever pressing and cocaine self-administration was conducted. The results revealed that the cocaine self-administration in rheus monkeys could be acquired and maintained with unsignaled resetting delays to reinforcement of up to 30s.
