Between policy and practice: Japan's Silver Human Resource Centers as viewed from the inside

Article Abstract:

The Silver Human Resource Centers (SHRC) promote economic autonomy and physical mental health in the older population of Japan. SHRC with its orientation towards care for the aged is valuable to the community also. However, SHRC fails to be effective in involving more older women and providing white-collar occupation for its members from white-collar backgrounds. SHRC plans to expand its service to include more white-collar work and emphasize social welfare to accommodate its members who are unable to get employment in labor market.

Physician case-by-case assignment and participation in Medicare

Article Abstract:

Access to health care by the elderly is likely to be affected by suggested budget cuts in Medicare. This was revealed by a study of doctors' decisions about case-by-case assignment and Medicare participation in relation to Medicare reimbursement generosity. The study further revealed that generosity in reimbursements from private insurance will have a negative impact on doctors' assignment rates.
