Cognitive flexibility, communication strategy, and integrative complexity in groups: public versus private reactions to majority and minority status

Article Abstract:

Member status, including majority and minority status, affects integrative complexity of decision-making groups in a political structure. The effects are higly cognizable when preferential differences, complexity levels and other personality factors to decision making are controlled. In a study of representative decision groups, minorities are shown to exhibit a low integrative complexity under all conditions of partial conformity, total conformity and no-change in contrast to the majorities. However, majorities also exhibit a low integrative complexity when all minorities conform to a decision, thus, creating a unanimous majority.

The effect of group-identification on emotion recognition: The case of cats and basketball players

Article Abstract:

Two studies were conducted to assess the impact of group-identification on emotion recognition in situations with equivalence, where linguistic accessibility of emotion terms, and cultural knowledge about prototypical group members are controlled. The results reveal that the in-group advantage enjoyed by people who identify with a particular group enables more successful decoding of their group members' emotional expressions.

The effect of information on consensus and accuracy in personality judgment

Article Abstract:

Information is found to have a weaker influence on consensus than on accuracy. A tendency to converge over time is also noted with both phenomena. Consensus started relatively high and showed no drastic changes over time while accuracy started lower than consensus but gradually increased. After 30 minutes, accuracy and consensus became nearly equal, a finding that is considered to be an interesting coincidence.
