Comment on Scheff

Article Abstract:

The problem of contemporary sociology is divided into four divisions. These are the qualitative research, quantitative research, general theory and cultural studies. The fourth category encompasses the new trends of academic politics which are staffed from several disciplines of literatures, history and arts departments. These cultural studies as applied to the sociology of intellectual life has a distinctive social base and ideology. Several academic programs are the results of social movements.

Reading Scheff's vision of sociology

Article Abstract:

The four categories of sociology which are theory, qualitative and quantitative methods and cultural studies have strengths and weaknesses. Each of these divisions of sociology fails to adequately connect theory with research in a reliable and valid manner. The model used by Scheff overcomes these flaws through the combination of comparative and intensive single case studies using ladder metaphor.
