Defining environmental justice and environmental racism

Article Abstract:

The author argues that attempts to define 'environmental justice' and 'environmental racism' as separate, concrete concepts is less important than examining the diversity of issues they are intended to represent within the political and legal arenas. He moves the argument beyond simple distributive patterns of contamination and pollution to negotiate the malleable nature of the terms due to geographic, temporal, and ethical differences.

Subsidized inequities: the spatial patterning of environmental risks and federally assisted housing

Article Abstract:

Research shows a link between government funded housing, hazardous geographic areas and minority populations. While explanations of this link based solely on income and race demonstrate poor consistency over time in cause and effect, evidence exists that this trend is growing.
