Do social workers make better child welfare workers than non-social workers?

Article Abstract:

A study conducted to examine whether educational background of child welfare workers in Florida has any impact on performance evaluations of their work. The study suggested that the educational background of child welfare workers does not predict their performance as evaluated by supervisors and peers; however more research is necessary to determine if performance evaluations of workers are positively correlated with successful service outcomes with clients.

Education and child welfare supervisor performance: Does a social work degree matter?

Article Abstract:

The job performance of child welfare supervisors with social work degrees was compared with those who had other degrees in order to understand the extent to which the educational background of child welfare supervisors affected performance evaluation of their work. The findings of the study indicated that the educational background of child welfare supervisors did not materially affect the evaluation of their performance by their superiors and peers.
