Does conjugal disparity affect marital relations? A comparative study of Taiwan, Shanghai and Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

A study to explore the conjugal consistency or disparity to compare the relative importance of conjugal disparity as against personal factors and to delineate the effect of demographic pairing in contrast with the effect of value discrepancy of the couples, in the perceptions of marital values and relations in Taiwan, Shanghai and Hong Kong is conducted. The results indicate that despite the high consistency percentage of perceptions of marital values and relations on the aggregate level, there exists a substantial amount of inconsistency among the conjugal pairs.

The son also acts as major caregiver to elderly parents: A study of the sandwich generation in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

The care support pattern of the middle-aged sandwich generation of Hong Kong towards their elderly parents and the perception of care responsibility from the receiver's and the giver's perspective is studied. The results present consistency between values towards elderly care and actual care behaviors from the parents' perspective in those sons are expected and are acting as the major caregivers.

Situating 'home' at the nexus of the public and private spheres: Ageing, gender and home support work in Canada

Article Abstract:

A study analyzes the relational dynamics and circumstances specific to the provision of care to elderly people in the home environment and in social support services in Canada. It highlights the role of co-residents in the provision and receipt of home care to the elderly recipient and shows how gender both implicitly and explicitly contributes to this framing in differing contexts.
