Doing well by doing good: volunteering and occupational achievement among American women

Article Abstract:

The assumption that volunteer work helps people to get good jobs is examined using panel data from the young women's module of the national longitudinal survey of labor market experience. Results reported that women having done volunteer work in 1974 had more prestigious jobs in 1981 than those who had not volunteered.
