Effects of multi-family housing on marital fertility in Iran: population policy implications

Article Abstract:

The type of housing significantly influences the decision to control fertility among Iranians when the effects of other variables are controlled. Single-family-house residents have higher fertility rates than those in multi-family type houses. Demolition of single-family housing units due to increases in cost of land, labor, material, and shortage of housing units will lower fertility further. The economic situation will produce congestion, crowding, and lower incomes unless the social infrastructure expands.
