Guide for the perplexed: On Michael Burawoy's "Public Sociology"

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Michael Burawoy's call for public sociology suggests that it follows a basic misconception of the strengths of the sociology and diverts itself from professional sociology, which would minimize the achievements and authencity of the field, instead of increasing its impact. Other theses are proposed which deal with the problems in logic and rhetoric of Burawoy's argument, address his weaknesses in conception of the four sociologies and offer more productive results.
