Housing across the world: A delegation from Israel visits the U.S

Article Abstract:

A delegation from Israel including Minister of Construction and Housing Meir Sheetrit visited the U.S. in December 2006, as they were interested in some of the country's programs for construction and maintenance of affordable housing. The Minister's main interest were the tax credits and housing rental vouchers as he would like to give low-income families the opportunity to live in a nice neighborhood and get out of the vicious cycle of poverty.

Expanding the base of affordable housing

Article Abstract:

An owner if fails to make mortgage payments, the lender can make a claim for mortgage insurance benefits and assign the loan to the department and as part of the assignment, HUD pays the lender 99 percents on the balance of the loan, which is known as a HUD-held loan. The department then sells such mortgages and loan sales are generally restricted to those secured by unsubsidized properties that are not affordable housing resources.

Caught between housing and history

Article Abstract:

Developers and housing authorities are increasingly seeing the value in adaptively reusing historic properties, but the process has its challenges. A report issued by the National Trust for Historic Preservation revealed that 32 percent of households below the poverty line live in older and historic homes, and more than half of all owner-occupied older and historic homes have affordable monthly housing costs.
