How can the study of aging inform research on social cognition?

Article Abstract:

An examination is presented of a diverse range of social cognitive phenomenon including the correspondence bias, impression formation, stereotype threat, self identity, and processing goals from an adult developmental perspective. Important and critical questions are raised that are to be posed about social cognition in general as well as social cognition and aging more specifically.

Adaptive aspects of social cognitive functioning in adulthood: Age-related goal and knowledge influences

Article Abstract:

An argument is presented that a social cognitive perspective might be useful in examining and understanding adaptive aspects of behavior in everyday context across adulthood. Studies have provided support for this assertion, presenting that age in adulthood is associated with increased selectivity in engagement of cognitive resources and the development of expert social knowledge.

Do beliefs and attributional complexity influence age differences in the correspondence bias?

Article Abstract:

A study assessed the influence of personal beliefs and attributional complexity on the correspondence bias in young and older adults. Results reveal that attributional complexity was an important factor influencing the extremity of older adults' attitude attributions.
