Illness severity and self-efficacy as course predictors of DSM-IV alcohol dependence in a multisite clinical sample

Article Abstract:

Illness severity is a significant predictor of relapse in a heterogeneous clinical sample of alcohol dependents, but self-efficacy fails to predict relapse outcome and coping behavior. The Alcohol Dependence Scale is a more sensitive and valid predictor of the outcome of alcoholism as compared to the Addiction Severity Index and DSM-IV. A brief version of the Situational Confidence Questionnaire fails to predict posttreatment outcome and coping responses. Response latency is higher in individuals with high self-efficacy.
