Individual motivations and information source relevance in political decision making

Article Abstract:

Research which explored the citizen participation in politics, their concern towards stands of politicians on various issues and how they weigh the relevance of various sources of information, such as newspapers and television, to decision making on political issues. Results of a telephone survey suggest that voters who attend to candidate images find political advertisements advantageous more than involved voters do.

The relation between media content evaluations and political disaffection

Article Abstract:

The relationship is examined between media coverage of politics and political disaffection, such as voter apathy and cynicism. Data suggests that lack of representation in the media, rather than a publicly viewed oversimplification of media coverage, contributes to political disaffection.

Media perceptions and public affairs apathy in the politically inexperienced

Article Abstract:

The association between college age citizen's political apathy and their perceptions, and use of the media was studied. Results indicated that when young people are more involved in public affairs they are do not lapse into political apathy.
