Intergenerational support: Psychological and cultural analyses of Korean and German women

Article Abstract:

Adult daughters from an East Asian culture (Korea) and western culture (Germany) were compared with respect to the extent and direction of intergenerational support, the associations between value orientations, relationship quality and intergenerational support, and to the meaning of perceived reciprocity within these processes. The findings show a more extensive exchange of support in the Korean as compared to the German daughter with very similar associations between values and relationship quality and a negative association of the German daughter's perception of giving more than receiving.
