Is the intention to quit smoking influenced by other heart-healthy lifestyle habits in 30- to 60-year-old men?

Article Abstract:

There is evidence that smokers who have other heart-healthy lifestyle habits, such as regular exercise or low-fat diet, are more likely to stop smoking. A study was undertaken on 30- to 60-year old men to measure the distribution of low-fat diet and regular exercise in smokers and determine whether the heart-healthy habits were linked with intentions to stop smoking. Results indicated that several intervention paths can trigger intentions to stop smoking, and such interventions should address factors associated with the intention.

'Ready to quit chew?': Smokeless tobacco cessation in rural Nebraska

Article Abstract:

There is a wide range of smokeless tobaccos available and many young people become addicted to snuff. A quit-chew media campaign was undertaken, targeting chewing tobacco cessation in rural Nebraska. There is limited interpretation of the results due to the lack of a nontreatment control group, variations in time to follow-up and mobility of some of the sample. However, behavior change was seen among smokeless tobacco users responding to the campaign.
