Measuring excessive alcohol use in college drinking contexts: The drinking context scale

Article Abstract:

The development of the Drinking Context Scale (DCS), and initial validation with college students, cited for their first campus drinking offense, is described. Those students cited for their first campus drinking offense were found to be disproportionately heavy drinks and alcohol abusers, compared with other college populations. The study gives preliminary support for the validity of the DCS scale

Differences in Asian and White drinking: consumption level, drinking contexts, and expectancies

Article Abstract:

A study of the drinking habits of 637 white and 179 Asian university students revealed the latter to be moderate drinkers who reported less alcohol-related problems. However, despite consuming less, the Asians perceived drinking as a stress-reliever. Asian-Americans are rarely admitted for alcohol treatment as a result of their effective regulation of alcohol consumption.
