Merton as a general theorist: Structures, choices, mechanisms, and consequences

Article Abstract:

A highly successful general model of the coresocial psychological processes that brought together key elements common to range of Robert Merton's more substantive works is presented. The model is extended to incorporate more of the cultural and social structural properties central to Merton's approach and a more detailed exegesis that legitimated the claim made by an array of commentators contrary to the impression created by the doctrine of middle range theorizing.
