Minors' access to snuff: purchase outcomes at corporate owned and independently owned convenience stores

Article Abstract:

There is a difference in sales rates of smokeless tobacco (ST) to minors between corporate owned and independently owned convenience stores. Sales clerks at corporate owned stores were found to be much less likely to sell ST to purchasers than were sales clerks from independently owned stores. These clerks were also much more likely than their counterparts in independently owned stores to ask buyers for age verification. Warning signs do not seem to deter merchants from selling ST to purchasers.
