Anxiety sensitivity, controllability, and experiential avoidance and their relation to drug of choice and addiction severity in a residential sample of substance-abusing veterans

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that patients undergoing residential substance abuse treatment exhibit heightened bodily sensitivity, emotional avoidance, and a perception of uncontrollable behavior. However, these behaviors do not influence their choice for drugs or severity of addiction.

Hope as a predictor of entering substance abuse treatment

Article Abstract:

This article examines how dispositional hope influences help-seeking behavior in substance-addicted federal prison inmates. Findings suggest that an increased level of hope lowers the probability that the person will enter a voluntary substance abuse treatment program.
