Naltrexone and brief counseling to reduce heavy drinking in hazardous drinkers

Article Abstract:

The utility of daily naltrexone and brief counseling for decreasing alcohol drinking in hazardous drinkers is examined through a ten-week trial with forty-one participants, who received thirty minutes of brief counseling during the initial two weeks and fifty milligrams of naltrexone throughout the trial. The same degree of improvement was not seen in naltrexone-treated participants as compared to placebo-treated participants who showed a greater degree of abstinence.
