Prevention and health promotion on the international scene: the need for a more effective and comprehensive approach

Article Abstract:

This article examines barriers that inhibit international collaboration in research on mental health promotion and the prevention of mental illness. Factors such as differences in the definitions of core concepts between countries, the use of different languages, and research duplication all serve as barriers to effective international collaboration in prevention research.

Assessment of lifetime physical and sexual abuse in treated alcoholics. validity of the addiction severity index

Article Abstract:

Between the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and Structured Trauma Interview methods employed to evaluate alcohol-dependent patients, ASI shows a lower incidence of physical abuse and sexual abuse, 51% vs 24%, and 29% vs 17%, respectively. Furthermore, data indicate lower incidence of abuse in male patients compared to females.

Increasing the efficacy of cue exposure treatment in preventing relapse of addictive behavior

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that cue exposure treament is a beneficial treament for the prevention of addicive behavior relapse if retrieval cues are incorporaed into the treatment protocol.
