Primary heroin users+drug-free treatment: an equation for success?

Article Abstract:

This article compares the results of drug-free substance abuse treatment among heroin users and other drug users. The authors maintain heroin users were less likely to complete the program, reported less abstinence during treatment, and were less likely to enter the treatment programs to which they were referred than other drug users.

Replicating the Addicted-Self model of recovery

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates the Addicted-Self model of recovery by applying it to a 2 year study of 260 alcohol and drug treatment outpatients. The authors conclude the model is consistent with the assumptions regarding the psychological process to recovery and is a useful tool in understanding addictive behavior.
