Refugee admissions for fiscal year 1993

Article Abstract:

The US President's budget proposal for FY 1993 allows for the admission of 122,000 refugees. However, the proposal provides little or no assistance to several nationalities. In connection with this, the Migration and Refugee Services has expressed its support of the American Council for Voluntary International Action's request for 155,000 refugee admissions in 1993. It is also pressing the government to be more considerate towards refugees whose political and religious beliefs refrain them from staying in or going back to their countries of origin.

Open migrant house in Guatemala's borders

Article Abstract:

Guatemala's Tecun Uman town located along the banks of the the Suchiate River has become a haven of an increasing number of US-bound Latin American migrants passing through Mexico. Illegal migrants that are caught by Mexican authorities are dumped across the river. The mistreatment of these migrants in this town are far worse than the abuses they experienced from Mexican authorities and guides.
