Relationship of personal tobacco-raising, parental smoking, and other factors to tobacco use among adolescents living in a tobacco-producing region

Article Abstract:

Analysis of tobacco habits among youth residing in tobacco growing regions reveals widespread tobacco use, causing greater mortality risk. The participants include youth from tobacco growing and non-growing households. The smoking behaviors of their parents is considered an important influence on the smoking pattern of the youth. Tobacco use is higher among boys than girls, and specifically higher among youth from tobacco-raising families where the parents also smoke. Implications for tobacco prevention in the tobacco-raising areas are discussed.
