Effects of cocaine on fixed-interval responding reinforced by the opportunity to run

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of varying doses of cocaine on the operant behavior of rats during a lever-pressing task. Findings indicate that only the highest doses of cocaine in the study resulted in a response pattern that suggested a rate-dependent effect in rats.

Responding for sucrose and wheel-running reinforcement: effects of sucrose concentration and wheel-running reinforcer duration

Article Abstract:

Research with 6 male albino rats suggests inhibitory aftereffects of early reinforcers were seen when wheel-running duration and sucrose concentration varied. Response changes could be accounted for by changes in stimuli value signaling reinforcers.

Running and responding reinforced by the opportunity to run: effect of reinforcer duration

Article Abstract:

A tandem fixed-ratio 1 variable-interval 30-s reinforcement schedule was used to study how reinforcer duration influences running and the opportunity to run. The study which was conducted on 11 male rats, revealed that there is a direct relationship between reinforcer duration and latency in pressing the lever. The rates of running and lever pressing, however, are inversely related to reinforcer duration, while the rate of response varies inversely with the opportunity to run. Further studies using nonappetitive types of reinforcement are recommended.
