Risk-taking propensity and risky sexual behavior of individuals in residential substance use treatment

Article Abstract:

A battery of self-report measures of impulsivity, self-esteem, and depressive symptoms and behavioral measure of risk-taking propensity, was administered to 76 residents of two inner-city substance use residential treatment programs to determine the unique relationship between risk-taking propensity and risky sexual behavior (RSB). The potential importance of risk-taking propensity, the better understanding HIV risk through engagement in RSB is discussed.

Substance use behaviors among college students with same-sex and opposite-sex experience: results from a naional study

Article Abstract:

Research indicate that women with both-sex partners are about twice as likely to smoke, binge drink, drug abuse as those who practice opposite-sex. Women having same-sex partners do not exhibit any more increased risk for these behaviors. Bisexual Men are less likely to engage in binge drink than those of heterosexual partners.

Excessive drinking in college: Behavioral outcome, not binge, as a basis for prevention

Article Abstract:

Data collected from 236 university students was analyzed for studying the different styles of drinking and the related positive and negative outcomes associated with the three types of drinking nights. It is important to support the utility of examining the drinking rates and the frequency of different types of drinking nights.
