Sexual identity: conflict and confusion in a male adolescent

Article Abstract:

The stress of adolescent stage heterosexual striving often leads to identity confusion. The core conflict of adolescent stage is the eventual consolidation of sexual identity, which depends on object preference, sexual orientation, and the characteristic masculine self image. Although identity confusion can be resolved by treatment, autonomous sexual identity finally depends on the adolescent's experiences and tasks in the context of interpersonal intimacy, further individuation, and separateness. A case study of an adolescent male with sexual identity confusion is discussed.

Mothers and their adolescent daughters: transitions and transformations

Article Abstract:

The conflict between separate identity and interdependence characterizes the relationship between mothers and their adolescent daughters. Tension between mother and adolescent daughter increases due to the child's impulsive behavior. However, both of them want to satisfy the interdependence of a mother and child. The solution lies in developing the dependent daughter and caring mother relationship into one that is interdependent, and one in which both continue to grow and develop. Mother and daughter must negotiate to achieve this formative experience.

Specific issues such as the purpose and need for the group are discussed along with the group's recruitment process, composition, content and the obstacles to facilitation and service.
