Social workers' roles in the criminal justice system: Adapting to the USA's changing attitudes towards the death penalty, 1953-2001

Article Abstract:

The US public is all in favor of the capital punishment, as they believe that the death penalty is a means of deterring crime and there is a need for a public vengeance for victims. The government is trying to change this trend with the help of social workers who can provide the families of the convicted with better support and can also ask them to speak to the public about the personal effects of capital punishment thus educating people on a larger and more comprehensive scale.
