Spatial microsimulation for rural policy analysis in Ireland: The implications of CAP reforms for the national spatial strategy

Article Abstract:

The impacts of changes to the common agricultural policy (CAP) are investigated, and the European and Irish policy environments are described, indicating the importance of building spatial models to analyze changes in rural Ireland. The development of the simulation model for the Irish local economy (SMILE) is described, which is a static and dynamic spatial microsimulation designed to analyze the impact of policy change and economic development on rural areas in Ireland.

Building institutional capacity in rural Northern Ireland: The role of partnership governance in the LEADER II programme

The role of EC's LEADER Program in the development of institutional capacity of rural communities and brokering connections in the local economy is presented. The multi-level activity of LEADER groups is rooted in partnership governance, enabling a communicative process among local stakeholders.
