Stabilizing morale, surmounting difficulties together: reflections on the film market in the first half of 1999

Article Abstract:

With the downturn in the Chinese film market and the closing of many movie theaters the author looks toward the future of the filmmaking industry. He states that the Chinese financial crisis, Chinese national events, pirated materials, poor viewing quality of films, and preventing the screening of imported movies has contributed to the decline of the Chinese movie making industry, but claims the industry will bounce back big.

Analysis of the 1998 nationwide market for American shared-profit films

This article discusses the success of 'Titanic' in China in 1998. The author explains the economic significance of the shared-profit film to the motion picture industry in China, and questions if other shared-profit movies can top the financial success of 'Titanic'. The author also analyzes significant strategies the film market can employ to increase profitability.

This article discusses the decline of movie theaters in China and the financial ramifications the diminished film market is suffering. The author provides a financial analysis of the movie industry to demonstrate that screening films has not been profitable for the industry.
