Supreme Court of Canada stands behind corporal punishment--Sort of...

Article Abstract:

Section 43 of the `Criminal Code' of Canada justified corporal punishment on children and there were several arguments on this issue that Section 43 violated the fundamental freedom of children, under Section 7 of the Charter. It is recommended that the Canadian government should be convinced to repeal this law, and by doing so, it would place Canada alongside other countries of the world that have abolished the corporal punishment on children, and uphold children's rights.

The culture of laughter as a factor of tolerance toward new social groups in Russian society: (an analysis of jokes about the "New Russians")

Article Abstract:

Jokes a genre of the culture of laughter, about the New Russians arose to lessen the tension between the new social entity and that of the traditional social groups. Jokes about "New Russians" are becoming less frequent now because the new cultural realities that shocked society at the beginning of the 1990s have become almost familiar and there is no longer a need to belittle them by cracking jokes at the their expense.
