Taiwan as Macedonia? Strait tensions as a syndrome

Article Abstract:

The conflict between China and Taiwan dates back to the victory of the Chinese Communist Party on the mainland in the 1940s and the flight of the Nationalist Party to Taiwan. Presently, the tension between the two nations has escalated and dissipated depending on the effects of various political activities. Although difficult to comprehend, the Taiwan Strait conflict may be best explained by using the Macedonian Syndrome model wherein ethnicity and irredentism play vital roles in the understanding of the conflict.

Has global ethnic conflict superseded Cold War ideology?

Article Abstract:

A spurt in violence and ethnic conflicts in the post-Cold War world is an offshoot of the pre-Cold War ideologies. Growing intolerance and radical activism seem to embrace the old doctrines of regimentation in Fascist and Communist societies. Contemporary ideological motivation overlooks human nature and undermines human rights in a bid to vent disaffections with the established order. Due appreciation of the human nature and a scientific approach are the only way toward a just society.

Making sense of ethnic cleansing

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze ethnic cleansing by examining patterns in the association between borders drawn on the ground and markers internalized by the population. The influence of increasing globalization were also discussed. Results indicated that people who seek to protect or augment their property and status, and to realize security may have to participate in genocide as a form of anticonquest.
