Tales from the field: observations on the impact of nongovernmental organizations

Article Abstract:

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been entrusted to deliver programs to mobilize the poor in developing countries. To show their support for such programs, developing countries have made contributions amounting to US$4 B. Results of research studies conducted on the impact of NGOs indicate their ineffectiveness in carrying out their jobs. Evidence indicates that NGOs do not take the opportunities to enforce social changes but only replicate government programs.
