The Migrant Health Program celebrates 30 years of service

Article Abstract:

The Migrant Health Program was created by Pres John F. Kennedy in 1962 with the primary goal of providing health care services for migrant and seasonal farm workers. Since then, its beneficiaries have grown from 50 grantees to total of 104 organizations. Two of its directors reveals information on the organization's progress for the past 30 years as well as their future plans. In spite of growth, the same problems that faced the program 30 years ago still plague and remains much to be done before the need for such a program is eliminated.

Fuel for the cruel: the Republican plan to punish immigrants - and America

Article Abstract:

A proposed immigration bill limiting the number of legal immigrants into the US may have eventual social and economic costs for the country. The bill seeks to limit the entry of immigrants with professional and management skills, those who would be reunited with their families and refugees from oppressive societies. The bill contradicts the US' historical development as a nation of immigrants whose combined talents have contributed to its growth, as well as its global mission to reduce oppression in other countries.

Linda Chavez on immigration

Article Abstract:

Immigration policy analyst Linda Chavez believes that the immigration issue is economic since it involves the lack of opportunities in the immigrant's home country and the provision of services for those in the US. Chavez advocates the creation of skills standards as criteria for admissions since it would increase the pool of skilled workers int he country. She opposes the creation of a national identification system since it impinges on individual privacy.
