The challenge of ministering to Hispanic immigrants

Article Abstract:

One of the biggest challenges that US Catholic Conference Executive Dir Ron Cruz has to face is ministering to younger generation Hispanics. In response to such challenge, the organization is establishing a talent bank which would provide information about professional Hispanics active in churchwork. However, the organization falls short in meeting the demands posed by a multicultural society. It has dismantled most of its multi-ethnic structures and opted to concentrate on the various ethnic groups.

Research into the mental health of immigrants: of what value is it?

Article Abstract:

There are a number of problems, issues and difficulties associated with research into the mental health of immigrants. One is the question of determining the definition and scope of the terms, such as migrants and ethnic minorities, used in classifying the people being studied. Another is the statistical difficulty of estimating the number of migrants and ethnic communities in base populations. Still another is the conceptual complexity of evaluating health issues involving ethnic minorities.

Airport chaplaincy

Article Abstract:

Airport chaplaincy is aptly termed a ministry of the moment as the chaplain deals not only with airport workers but more importantly, with travellers. Traveling places a person at a vulnerable state of tension and weariness. The airport ministry caters to travelers by providing a place for welcome and hospitality and a space for peace and prayer. The concern of the Catholic church for both workers and travelers has led to the establishment of airport chaplaincy in a number of airports.
