The course and drivers of the forest transition: the case of France

Article Abstract:

The article discusses forest transition in terms of a crisis-response. Conclusions are based on research of reforestation in France in the early 19th century; topics include course and drivers of forest transition, such as crises, wood shortage and floods, state intervention, a shift from the pre-industrial to post-industrial forest, and national land use transition; also mentioned are rural exodus and the increased market focus of agriculture.

Agricultural trajectories (1961-1991), resulting agricultural profiles and current sociodemographic profiles of rural communities in southern Quebec (Canada): a typological outline

Article Abstract:

Sociodemographic profiles and agricultural trajectories for the rural communities in Quebec, Candada, between 1961 and 1991 are presented. Topics include profiles for different kinds of farming and different kinds of agricultural communities. Attention is paid to the influence of suburban development on rural communities.
