The diagnosis and treatment of children with nonverbal learning disabilities

Article Abstract:

The diagnosis and treatment of children with nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD) involves development of compensative attributes in the children for their cognitive deficits. NLD are disorders related to reception, expression and processing of affective communications and visual-spatial information. As the children fail to decode mainstream nonverbal communication, they develop relational self-esteem problems. Parents must be involved in the therapeutic process. Understanding the psychodynamics of the child's perception of the world and results of his dependence on others is essential for treatment.

Kids' experience of post-modern stress: new tools for clinicians

Article Abstract:

Qualitative assessment of children's experiences provides a useful methodology in psychodynamic psychotherapy for post-modern stress. Clinicians organize the subjective experiences of children into four categories. This helps in identifying the stressful familial ties that cause problems in different categories. Clinicians can work rapidly and efficiently to enhance anti-stress activity in family life of children by conducting alternate sessions with children and their parents.
