The millionaire project: a cross-cultural analysis of quiz shows from the United States, Russia, Poland, Norway, Finland, Israel, and Saudi Arabia

Article Abstract:

The international quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire as it has been produced in seven different countries-the United States, Russia, Poland, Norway, Finland, Israel, and Saudi Arabia is compared. The extent to which the popular television is shaped by local culture is examined. In terms of knowledge hierarchy, in all the countries academic topics are more valuable than everyday knowledge.

Let your conscience be your guide: smoking and drinking in Disney's animated classics

Article Abstract:

Twenty-four G-rated animated features films from 1937 to 2000 were studied and found to have prolonged tobacco and alcohol exposure. It was also reported that since children watched these films, 381 incidents of substance use was found among them.

Cultural feeding, good life science, and the TV Food Network

Article Abstract:

The Food Network owes it success to its promotion of extravagant eating as part of the "good life." It airs programs that promote excessive living as admirable, increasing the divide between the rich and the poor.
