John T. Pardeck and Roland G. Meinert's view that the scholarly productivity of the contributing editors of Social Work is wanting is criticized as insufficiently broad, as the problem also includes the appointments to the Encyclopedia, the endowed chairs, and more.

Academic merit, professional needs, and social work education

The claim that the focus of social work journals should be one of accepting only work of the highest academic merit is discussed. This will serve the needs of both professional practitioners and social work educators.
