The rural space in Israel in search of renewed identity: The case of the moshav

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the changes that have taken place in the moshav community of Israel reveals a process of rural restructuring, new economic activities replaced farming as sources of income, and newcomers of urban origin invaded rural communities in search of better quality of life. These changes are the effect of structural changes in agriculture, changing government policies, and cumulative decisions of rural households, and the result is a more heterogeneous moshav, physically, economically and socially, and growing regional, inter-village and intra-village disparities.

Distance as a hybrid actor in rural economies

Article Abstract:

A research was conducted in rural British Columbia to study the changes in rural political economy, and using the notion of hybridity, and the strong influence that hybridized networks have on rural actors, the role of distance in a Post-Fordist rural economy is reconceptualized. It is argued that distance is itself a hybrid actor that behaves differently according to the particular configuration of its natural, technological and social dimensions, and the capacity to organize and configure distance is a key source of power and variance in rural economies.

Conflicts about water: A case study of contest and power in Dutch rural policy

Article Abstract:

The conflicts, rationalities and interests within a Dutch rural planning project are analyzed with the use of area-based policy. Area-based policy does not guarantee the establishment of consensus among rural stakeholders, and hence these policies require being contextualised to purposefully address spatial rural problems.
