The self-concept of adolescent girls in non-relative versus kin foster care

Article Abstract:

This article examines well-being and self-concept among Israeli adolescent girls in kinship care, or long-term care provided by relatives, and non-familial foster care. Findings indicate that adolescents in kinship care have greater feelings of belonging and family commitment and have more frequent visits and better relations with their biological families.

The least detrimental alternative: deciding whether to remove children at risk from their homes

Article Abstract:

This article examines factors that influence a social worker's decision to remove a child from an unsuitable home or let them remain with their families. Both alternatives can have potentially detrimental effects and should be evaluated based on the child's emotional needs and their risk of experiencing recurring abuse at home.

Child maltreatment; the approach of Arab social workers in Israel

Article Abstract:

Issues are discussed regarding the response of Arab social workers to child abuse in Israel. The indicators used by these professionals to identify possible cases of child abuse, the risk factors for this conduct, and the social worker's role in helping this population are all included.
