The trillion-barrel tar pit

Article Abstract:

Alberta sits atop the biggest petroleum deposit outside the Arabian Peninsula with as many as 300 billion recoverable barrels and another trillion-plus barrels that could one day be within reach using new retrieval methods. The petroleum industry is spending billions on new methods to get at the estimated 6 trillion barrels of heavy oil world wide, nearly the earth's entire oil reserve.

Oil from the deep

Article Abstract:

New deep-sea rigs are capable of reaching down 40,000 feet where they will encounter numerous obstacles like freezing waters, boiling oil, seismic uncertainty and tremendous pressure. Oil production in the Gulf of Mexico could increase US oil reserves by 50%. Chevron uses the Cajun Express oil rig to explore the Jack oil field in the Gulf of Mexico.
