What the motivated mind sees: comparing friends' perspectives to married partners' views of each other

Article Abstract:

This study examines if marriage satisfaction is related to how married couples and their friends rate their partners. Findings suggest that people in more satisfying relationships view their partner as having more virtue than their friends perceive, and people in less satisfying relationships perceive less virtue in their partners than their friends perceive.

The regulation of dependency in parent-child relationships

Article Abstract:

The insecurities about a close other's regard that make it difficult for low self-esteem people to form satisfying romantic relationships that also create difficulties in family relationships is proposed. The results show that the processes that regulate attachment to significant others extend to familial as well as romantic relationships.

Strategically controlling information to help friends: effects of empathy and friendship strength on beneficial impression management

Article Abstract:

The researchers hypothesize that people asked about the skills or qualities of their friends will bolster their friend's identities if they feel that their friends will be tested by or meet the questioner. Topics addressed include empathy, helping behavior, social support and impression management within friendships.
