When negative expectancies turn into negative performance: The role of ease of retrieval

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis of the ease of retrieval heuristic to the impact of negative stereotypic expectations on test performance is discussed. It is argued that when individuals recall information that supports negative stereotypic expectations, the activation may impair test performance relative to conditions when no stereotypic expectations are activated.

Inferring the importance of arguments: order effects and conversational rules

Article Abstract:

Order effects in one-sided and two-sided communications are investigated experimentally. It is proposed that communicative aspects play a central role in the emergence of order effects where such effects were eliminated when the applicability of participant's expectations was experimentally reduced.

Lay theories in affective forecasting: the progression of affect

Article Abstract:

The study focuses on theories that concern progressions of affective responses, related to beliefs about the adaptation process. Results and implications for the inaccuracy of affective forecasts are explored.
