A scuba diver recalls the harrowing experience he had while diving off the Gulf of Mexico. Since he was paired with a diving instructor, the diver let his guard down and did not take the necessary safety precautions. A near-accident reminded him not to take anything for granted.

Bay Islands hurricane update
Article Abstract:
The coral reefs of Bay Islands, Honduras remained intact and a good diving site despite the visit of Hurricane Mitch in Dec 1998. Only the lettuce corals, sponges and seafans were damaged because they are found in the shallow areas of the ocean.
