A fluid dynamic investigation of the Big Blade and Macon oar blade designs in rowing propulsion

Article Abstract:

The study of fluid dynamics of the two most common oar blades, the Big Blade and the Macon with the help of scaled models of each blade and a flat big blade subjected to the water flume using a quasi-static method. The comparison of the lift and drag coefficients of the two blades showed that the two blades have very similar characteristics.

Optimization of oar blade design for improved performance in rowing

Article Abstract:

An investigation to determine the fluid dynamics characteristics of a curved rectangular blade and comparing them with those of a Big Blade was conducted. It proved that to improve rowing performance, blade curvature is important for maximizing both lift and drag forces.
