A review of correlates of physical activity of children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

Correlates of physical activity of children and adolescents are discussed. a list of variables consistently associated with physical activity in children is given. Among them are time spent outdoors and program/facility access, sex (male), parental overweight, and good diet. About 60% of all reported associations with physical activity are found to be statistically significant. It was concluded that these consistently related variables should be confirmed in prospective studies, and interventions to improve the modifiable variables should be developed/evaluated.

Effect of oral sodium loading on high-intensity arm ergometry in college wrestlers

Article Abstract:

Oral sodium loading and its effect on high-intensity arm ergometry have been studied in college wrestlers. Data did not support previous reports of ergogenic benefits from NaHCO(sub.3)(sodium bicarbonate) and NaCl (salt) administration before exercise. They did suggest that performance may not be enhanced by exogenously induced metabolic alkalosis or taking in sodium in wrestling and other competitive athletic events.

Epidemiology of women's recreational ice hockey injuries

Article Abstract:

Female recereational ice hockey players are at risk for injuries. Prevention should be studied. The diagnostic and anatomic distribution of injury in a women's hockey league was similar to that in leagues where full facial protection is mandatory. The observed injury rate was lower than rates reported for male recreatioanl and college ice hockey players.
