Article Abstract:

George Bird Grinnell was a 19th century sportsman who is more popularly known as 'the father of American conservation.' Grinnell, who was editor-in-chief of the Forest and Stream magazine in the 1880s, espoused a number of conservation causes. He also wrote several books on hunting and wildlife conservation.

Common ground: battles over hunting only draw attention away from the real threat to wildlife

Article Abstract:

Numerous publications falsely charge that hunting endangers wildlife. These publications fail to consider that hunting has made significant contributions to wildlife protection. Moreover, they disregard that the primary cause of extinction has been habitat loss due to overpopulation.

Frank Mather-in memoriam

An appreciation of the life and work of ocean angler Frank Jewett Mather III, who died aged 89 in spring 2000, is presented. His work on bluefin tuna and his design of a global tagging system for fish are described.
