A twelve year profile of medical injury and illness for the Twin Cities marathon

Article Abstract:

This study uses medical records to identify patterns in medical problems and treatment outcomes in runners participating in the Twin Cities Marathon between 1982 and 1994. Results indicate that the most common medical problems included exercise-induced collapse, musculoskeletal injuries, and skin problems and that most runners required minimal medical care.

Impact of weather on marathon-running performance

Article Abstract:

The impact of weather on the marathon running-performance for different populations of runners is studied. Results reveal that the marathon performance slows down for men as well as women of wide ranging abilities with an increase in the wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT), although the performance is found to be more adversely affected for slow runners.
